On Friday (December 1st, 2023) at the Djerring Flemington Hub, HWPL Victoria held its End of Year Celebration of Peace in collaboration with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG). Dedicated to HWPL's esteemed partners and community leaders in a review of the peace work completed in 2023, the evening was a great success concluding with HWPL proudly announcing the signing of MOUs with three distinguished organisations dedicated to promoting peace and harmony in Victoria.

The MOUs were signed with three Victorian Organisations:

Kampuchea Krom Federation (KKF): KKF is recognized for its advocacy for Khmer Krom human rights, cultural preservation and efforts in peaceful resolutions.

Advocacy for Oromia: Committed to assisting newcomers in overcoming settlement challenges since 2014, the organisation provides culturally-sensitive services, advocates for their causes, and promotes community education.

The organisation has become a strong supporter of HWPL in the past year, becoming peace educators by completing the HWPL Peace Educator training.

Comments from the PETE participants:

“I have learned a lot about how peace can come through this peace class. In particular, I have gained a strong understanding that if we sow the seeds of peace, we can produce many citizens who fight for peace”

“He who seeks peace, does not disturb the peace of another”

SUDD Foundation: The foundation creates community-led initiatives to reduce vulnerability via education, build connections, and enhance integration and acceptance for Australians from South Sudan, contributing to a society where all young people are valued and supported.

The SUDD foundation worked with the HWPL Peace Education Sector this year, delivering important values of peace to the youth. Workshops were held with the Sudanese youth in primary and highschool ages

After the Peace Education classes, one student said:

“Animals and plants in nature show us harmony in diversity. People are also so diverse and we must also respect our differences to achieve peace”

The SUDD foundation promises to work together through peace education and promoting the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) in 2024.

As we conclude this remarkable year, HWPL remains steadfast in its commitment to the cessation of war and the establishment of a culture of peace. Through collaborative and sustainable solutions, including international peace conferences, education programs, and cultural exchanges, HWPL shows that a world of peace is possible.
